The valley community Oberhalbstein or Romansh Surses is lying in Swiss Canton Grisons at the northern foot of the Julier Pass.

The Oberhalbstein (Rhaeto-Romanic Sursés) is the valley north of the Julier Pass. It extends between Tiefencastel and the Julierpasshöhe and is traversed by the river Julia (Romansh Gelgia). It also forms one of the four political districts of the Albula District.
language
It belongs to one of the Romansh language areas in the canton of Graubünden. The Rhaeto-Romanic idiom Surmeir is spoken by a little more than half of the population, and German is on the advance due to immigration; In Bivio, the last place before the top of the pass, Italian is sometimes spoken.
However, almost all residents understand German, at least as a second language.

In the street
Of Zurich or St. Margarethen Coming from the Rhine Valley you can get there on the Autobahn to Graubünden.
