Obertauern is a tourist community at the top of the Radstädter Tauern Pass. The northern part of the place belongs to the municipality Untertauern in the Pongau, the southern one is on the territory of the municipality Tweng in the Lungau.
background
The town of Obertauern is still quite young. After the First World War, the first skiers came to the top of the Tauern Pass by horse-drawn sleigh, and the first ski lifts were built around 1950. Electric light and running water have been in the place since 1960. In 1962 the place officially got its name Obertauern.
