Untertauern is a small community in Pongau, the place is on the Pongauer Taurach on the road to the Radstädter Tauern Pass.

The village of Untertauern is located on the road to the Radstädter Tauern Pass, which was already used in Roman times. A few milestones along the road still prove this today. At the top of the pass lies Obertauern, the place that was created around 1950 belongs to both the community of Untertauern and the community Tweng.
