Information

Geographic coordinates: 49 ° 51′09 ″ N 18 ° 45′37 ″ E

The village lies within the historical borders of the region Cieszyn Silesia. The area is 1318 ha and the population is 2016, i.e. the population density is 153 people / km².

In the years 1975-1998, the town was located in the former Bielskie Province.

The national road No. 81 (popularly known as the Vistula River) runs through the village - it is about 60 km long, leading from Katowice from the A4 motorway at the junction with ul. Mikołowska, to the intersection with the S1 expressway in Harbutowice near Skoczow.

Geography

Ochaby lies in the Upper Vistula Valley region, which is part of the Oświęcim Basin. The town is located on a relatively flat area with an average height of approx. 260 m above sea level, created as a result of glacial and river erosion flowing through the town from south to north Vistula. In the south, in the area of Kępa Wiślicka, the village reaches 340 m above sea level. From the east, it is adjacent to Kiczyce, from the south with Wiślica, from the west with Dębowiec and They will run and from the north with Wayward and for a short distance from Zaborze.

History

The town was first mentioned in the Latin document "Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis" (Book of salaries of the Wrocław bishopric, written during the times of Bishop Henryk of Wierzbno) around 1305 in a number of villages obliged to pay tithes to the bishopric in Wroclaw, as item in Ochabe. This entry (no specification of the number of fiefs from which the tax will be paid) indicates that the village was in the initial stage of its formation (although the layout of the village does not indicate that it happened on the so-called raw root, but on the basis of an older small settlement).

The original settlement center was located in the area of the present parish church and to the north of it, on the right bank of the Vistula. At that time, the village was politically located within the borders of the Duchy of Cieszyn established in 1290, which was a fief of the Kingdom of Bohemia from 1327, and from 1526, as a result of the accession of the Czech throne by the Habsburgs together with the region, until 1918 in the Habsburg monarchy (colloquially in Austria).

After World War I, the town, as part of Cieszyn Silesia, became the subject of the Polish-Czechoslovak border conflict. Ultimately, from 1920 Ochaby found itself within the borders of the Second Polish Republic.

Horse stud

After World War II, the horse stud in nearby Pruchna, existing since 1890, was expanded and a new farm was established in Ochaby. This stud became one of the largest stud farms in the following years Silesia and as the only one in Poland to breed Anglo-Arabian horses of the French type. Next to the stud, there was the Horse Sports Center, where competitors trained and show jumping competitions were held.

After the political changes in Poland in 1989, the studs in Pruchna and Ochaby were separated, and the one in Ochaby became the property of the State Treasury Agricultural Property Agency (ul. Hodowlana 16, http://www.stadnina-ochaby.com.pl phone: 33 8533776, 33 8531013). Currently, part of the facility has been closed, because Dream Park was built nearby (ul. In 2012, the stud was sold to a private owner.
