Alhambra, Generalife and Albaicin, GrenadeCultural(i) (iii) (iv)Dominating the modern city built in the plain, the Alhambra and the Albaicin, located on two adjacent hills, make up the medieval part of Granada. To the east of the fortress and residence of the Alhambra stretch the marvelous gardens of the Generalife, the former country residence of the emirs who ruled this part of Spain in the 13th and 14th centuries. The residential quarter of Albaicin retains a rich set of Moorish vernacular architecture in which traditional Andalusian architecture blends harmoniously.

1 Tower of Hercules Cultural(iii)The Tower of Hercules has served as a lighthouse and land mark at the entrance to the port of La Coruña, in northwestern Spain, since the end of the Ier century AD, when the Romans built the Farum Brigantium. The Tower, built on a rock already representing an altitude of 57 m, reaches 55m, of which 34 correspond to the structure of the Roman lighthouse and 21 to the restoration directed by the architect Eustaquio Giannini in the XVIIIe century and who added two octagonal shapes to the Roman structure. At the base is a small rectangular Roman building. The site also has a sculpture park, as well as the Iron Age petroglyphs of Monte dos Bicos and a Muslim cemetery. The Roman foundations of the lighthouse were unearthed during excavations carried out in the 1990s. Numerous legends accompany the history of the Tower from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.e century. This is the only case of a lighthouse from Greco-Roman Antiquity that is truly preserved and still in use.A Coruña - Torre de Hércules 02.JPG

Since the end of the last Ice Age, the beech forests of Europe have rapidly spread from a few isolated refuges in the Alps, Carpathians, Mediterranean and Pyrenees in a few thousand years, a process which still continues. today. The successful expansion of beech is due to its flexibility and tolerance to different climatic, geographic and physical conditions.
