Petersberg is a unified community in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt in the area of the striking, 250 meter high Petersberg.
background
The community has existed since January 1, 2011. It includes the former communities of Beidersee, Brachstedt, Drehlitz, Drobitz, Götschetal, Gutenberg, Kaltenmark, Krosigk, Kütten, Möderau, Morl, Mösthinsdorf, Nehlitz, Ostrau, Sennewitz, Teicha, Wallwitz and Werderthau .
The eponymous mountain, 250 m above sea level, is a volcanically formed rhyolite rock that protruded from the ice like an island in the Ice Age ("Nunatak") and therefore has comparatively steep flanks. The Petersberg clearly towers above its surroundings and offers a wide view (even if the popular claim that it is the highest elevation between the Harz Mountains and the Urals belongs to the realm of anecdotes at this geographical latitude). The medieval monastery church of St. Petrus stands at the highest point and presumably followed older cult sites.
getting there
By train
Local trains on the Halle – Bernburg route stop at Wallwitz station. The Stumsdorf and Niemberg stations on the Halle – Köthen – Magdeburg line are a few kilometers east of the municipality. In general, however, traveling by train is not a really helpful alternative for the visitor.
By bus
In the street
The A14 federal motorway runs through the municipality. Suitable exits are Löbejün (exit 13, on L 137) and Trotha (exit 15, on B6, L50). Further connections are to be made in the future via the planned Halle-Nord motorway triangle (exit 14).
The B6 runs roughly parallel to the A14 in the west of the municipality. Petersberg (collegiate church) is part of the Romanesque Road.
On foot
The runs over the Petersberg European long-distance footpath E11coming from the north (Görzig / Krosigk) and heading south Halle (Saale) continues. Also the Lutherweg runs over the Petersberg.

Tourist Attractions
The most important sight is the mountain itself, which dominates the surrounding flat landscape and has not been a place of worship since the Middle Ages, but possibly for a long time. The monastery church St. Peter stands at the highest point. The porphyry rock was (and is still today on the western flank) quarries, in which water sometimes collects and which are therefore nice places to swim. The Bismarck Tower is accessible as a lookout tower, in contrast to the Telekom skyscraper and telecommunications tower. Other attractions such as the zoo and summer toboggan run are also located on the mountain.
