Pfaffenhofen on the Ilm is the county seat in the Hallertau in Upper Bavaria. In autumn 2011 Pfaffenhofen received the title of "International Awards for Liveable Communities" (LivCom Awards) from the UN in Seoul, South Korea "most livable small town in the world" against global competition.

- The old Bavarian tradition of Shepherd dance was introduced in 1930 by the men's gymnastics club 1862 Pfaffenhofen / Ilm e.V. According to tradition, the season is every seven years from Epiphany to Shrove Tuesday. The current game years are 2012 and next time 2019.
