Plochingen lies at the mouth of the Fils in the Neckar on the southern edge of the Virgin forest.

Plochingen has only had town rights since 1948. But the town had a post office as early as 1698, trains have stopped here since 1846, and Plochingen has been a port city since 1968. After the Neckar at the nearby town Deizisau was dammed at the 27th and last lock, it became possible to use the Neckar up to river kilometer 200 Big Rhine ships to drive on.

Plochingen is on the Württemberg Wine Route. Due to industrialization, viticulture lost its earlier importance, but attempts have been made for a few years to revive the old tradition.

The 1 Plochingen station is conveniently located on the railway line between Stuttgart and Ulm, from which the Neckar-Alb-Bahn (Stuttgart via Reutlingen to Tubingen) branches off. Trains on the S-Bahn line also stop S1 of VVS from Stuttgart to Kirchheim unter Teck.

In the street

Plochingen is on the right side of the Neckar, but can be easily reached from the B10 via the Neckar Bridge and the Harbor Bridge. To A8 AS Symbol: AS 55 it is only about 8 km via the B313.

By boat
