Posticciola

Posticciola is a center of the Lazio.

To know

The village is a fraction of Rocca Sinibalda.

Geographical notes

On the Apennines of the Sabina in Eastern Lazio, the village is located near the Turano Lake, to which he once gave the name. It is 6 km from its municipal capital, Rocca Sinibalda, 22 from Rieti, 30 from Carsoli, 70 from Avezzano.

Background

It rises near the archaeological area of the ancient city Trebula Mutuesca (today in the municipal area of Monteleone Sabino) and could constitute its original pre-Roman nucleus; this hypothesis is supported by the numerous Roman architectural remains in the area, visible from the outermost city streets on the slopes of the neighboring mountains, and symbolized by the ancient Roman bridge, called Ponte Vecchio, reachable with a short walk coming down from the town. Formerly a post office and place of transit for transhumance, it still preserves the layout of a medieval Sabine village.

The first historical testimony of the town dates back to 898, but the current name seems of more recent origin: we have known it in 1844 and it seems to derive from the union of the names of the two neighboring towns Posta and Roccucciola. The Brancaleoni family was lords of the locality, then the Belloni family who became extinct in the Cavalletti that held it until the subversion of feudalism. Rocca Sinibalda.
