The province of West Flanders or more simply West Flanders (in Dutch : West-Vlaanderen) is a province of western Belgium. Reporting to the Flemish region, its capital is the city of Bruges.
The official language in West Flanders is Dutch. West Flemish is the main dialect of the province and is still often used in colloquial language. West Flemish is the liveliest and most widely used dialect in West Flanders, although for several years this dialect has been in decline among the younger generation.
At the linguistic border, the municipalities of Espierres-Helchin and Messines, where a French-speaking minority lives, French can be used to communicate with the administration.
