Albacete province it is a province Spanish of the Castile-La Mancha.

Geographical notes

It borders the provinces of Ciudad Real to the west, of Cuenca to the north, with the Valencian community (province of Valencia) to the east, with the autonomous community of Murcia to the south and with theAndalusia (provinces of Granada and of Jaén) to the southwest.

The province is mainly located in the central plateau at an altitude of about 700 m. The southern part is characterized by karst formations and deep canyons.

Urban centers

  • Albacete - Capital of the province of the same name, with an architectural heritage that is not particularly significant as many of the oldest monuments have been destroyed and replaced by new buildings built during Francoism.
  • Alcalá del Júcar - It was a Muslim fortress that was part of the defensive line built by the Arabs.
  • Almansa - Surmounted by its imposing castle. In the early 1700s an important battle for the war of the Spanish succession took place there.
  • Elche de la Sierra - The most important festivities of Elche de la Sierra undoubtedly take place from 15 to 19 September and consist of running of the bulls in an enclosed part of the city.

  • Villarrobledo - Known nationally for holding one of the best carnivals in Spain.

  • 2 Grotta della Vecchia (Cueva de la Vieja) - Like the previous one, it is a cave that is part of the group of rock arts of the Mediterranean arc Iberian Peninsula, protected by UNESCO.
  • 3 Natural Park of Los Calares del Río Mundo y de la Sima (Parque Natural de los Calares del Río Mundo y de la Sima) - Karst landscapes of great beauty around the sources of the Rio Mundo and its upper course characterized by numerous waterfalls.
