Raków is a historic city in the voivodeship Holy Cross on the medieval trade route from Krakow to Kielce. To the west it closes Krakow-Czestochowa Jura and northeast that Heiligkreuzgebirge at. The place is best known for being the center of the Arian Reformation in Poland. From the end of the 16th century, the only Arian university in Poland-Lithuania was located here, which was one of the most important Protestant academies in Europe, until it had to close in the course of the Counter-Reformation in 1638 and its professors and students emigrated to the Netherlands. The Arian Polish Brothers emerged in the 16th century as a radical split from the Calvinists, whose center is in the neighboring one Pińczów found.
