The city of Rheinau was established in 1975 as part of the municipal reform through the merger of the city of Freistett and the municipalities of Rheinbischofsheim, Diersheim, Hausgereut, Helmlingen, Holzhausen, Honau, Memprechtshofen and Linx. The city lies on the Rhine and the Rhine floodplains.

The Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport is about 24 km away, for Stuttgart Airport it is around 130 km to the Strasbourg airport about 90 km.

By bicycle

The right one Rhine cycle path leads through Rheinau. Since 2019 there has also been a cycle path from France over the barrage to Freistett.

In the street

  • The L75 (formerly B36) runs through Rheinau.
  • The L87 leads to the west over the Rhine, from there leads the D2 ins AlsatianGambsheim. In the east it leads to the motorway after approx. 8 km A5 AS Symbol: AS 53 Achern.

  • 4  Evangelical Church Rheinbischofsheim. Large sandstone church, also called "Hanau Cathedral".
  • 5  St. Nikolaus Chapel ("Heidenkirchl"), Freett. Church building from the 10th / 11th Century and thus the oldest church in Hanauerland.
  • 6  St. Nicholas Church, House-paid. Also a very old church, similar to the Heidenkirchl in Freistett.
  • 7  Memprechtshofen Church. Small church with a unique half-timbered tower.
  • 8  Diersheim town hall. Nice half-timbered building.
  • 9  Duck fishing, Memprechtshofen. Replica of a duck trap on a scale of 1:10.
  • 10  Panzergraben cemetery and memorial, Southwest of Memprechtshofen. Memorial to the soldiers who died defending the anti-tank ditch shortly before the end of the war.
  • 11  Historic bowling alley, Holzhausen. Historic bowling alley of the former Gasthaus zum Pflug.
  • 12  Jewish Cemetery, Freett.
  • 13  Judenstein, Rheinbischofsheim.

  • 3  Helmlingen Nature Park. Signposted hiking routes through the area around Helmlingen with a total of three nature reserves. The starting points for the hikes are the parking spaces at the Rhein-Rench-Halle and the Landgasthof Ratz.
