  • The 1 Villa Cassel stands on the Riederfurka above Riederalp. The english Banker Cassel built it there in 1901 as his summer palace. It now belongs to the environmental organization Pro Natura and was expanded in 2019 so that it can be operated CO2-neutrally. There is a free exhibition on mountain nature and a glacier garden.

activities

In summer

hike

  • The 1 Moosfluh (2,333 m) is a well-known panoramic mountain above the Riederalp. It is accessed by a gondola lift and a number of hiking trails and offers a spectacular view of the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. There is a refreshment bar here, which is housed in a former cable car cabin.
    • The 1 Blausee is a small mountain lake at the middle station of the Moosfluhbahn. Several high-alpine mountain ranges of the main Alpine ridge rise behind the lake - including that Matterhorn - which are reflected in the lake. The only thing that bothers the nice atmosphere is the loud motor of the cable car.
  • 2 Hochfluh is the name of the 2,227 m high neighboring summit of the Moosfluh. A chair lift leads here. The Hochfluh is less known and emptier, but the view of the Aletsch Glacier is not much different.
  • If you want to see the Aletsch Glacier up close, you can go from the Moosfluh to the Glacier edge descend. You can even enter the ice stream there. However, caution is advised, because the ice is slippery and a small gap separates the glacier and the mountain.
  • A hiking trail leads from Riederalp to Belalp. You first go over the Riederfurka, then descend steeply and cross one 2 Suspension bridge and go up to the goal.
  • The 3 Massa Gorge is the gorge through which the water from the Aletsch Glacier enters the Rhone got. A spectacular hiking trail leads from one end to the other. On the way you get dangerously close to the abyss, cross under rock overhangs and hike through tunnels. To take this path, you can follow the Massaweg. It leads from Ried-Mörel through the gorge and ends in Blatten at Naters. If you want to get back to Riederalp after the hike, you use the steep path to Riederfurka and on to Riederalp at the upper end of the gorge.
    • At the upper end of the Massa Gorge is the 4 Gibidum reservoir with an imposing dam wall that offers a view of the Massa Gorge.
  • The third mountain above the Riederalp is that 3 Riederhorn with a view of the highest mountains around the Valais Saas-Fee and Zermatt.

Climb

Around the 4 Gibidum reservoir leads a via ferrata.

The mountains above Riederalp are not rugged enough to be conquered by climbing. But that begins behind the Aletsch Glacier Aletsch area with numerous high alpine mountains.

golf

There is one on the Riederalp 6 Golf course, which is the highest such in Europe represents.

In the winter

In winter the Riederalp belongs to the Aletsch Arena ski area. From there extend over the Bettmeralp to Fiesch 104 kilometers of slopes, accessed by 35 lifts. Most of the slopes are easy or intermediate, but there are also difficult slopes and routes. There is a toboggan run from Moosfluh and the whole area, including the villages below, can be reached via winter hiking trails.
