Visp is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Valais.
background
The municipality is located at the point where the Vispertäler, which is in Stalden in the Saas Valley and Nikolaital and thus the access to Zermatt and Saas-Fee form, flows into the Rhone Valley. It is one of the industrial centers of the canton of Valais. The industrial plants of the Lonza fill almost the entire Rhone Valley.
The former municipality of Eyholz has been part of the municipality of Visp since 1972.

By train
Since the opening of the Lötschberg base tunnel in December 2007, Visp station has been a full node and stop for Eurocity, Intercity, Interregio, Glacier Express and all regional trains.
There are connections e.g. E.g. direct connections from Paris, Milan and Frankfurt out.
In the street
The A9 motorway is only partially completed in this area of the Rhone Valley. However, a national road runs along the entire Rhone Valley.

On foot
The old town is manageable, all destinations are within walking distance of each other. The walk from the train station to the old town takes about 10 minutes.
bicycle
With "Wallis rolls", the canton of Valais has a bicycle rental service at several locations. This is located about 3 minutes from the train station and can be used inexpensively. Visp and the region can be explored very easily by bike.
Public transport
Visp has a local bus that only goes from Visp-West to the hospital. From the Visper train station you can get to every corner of Switzerland by train or bus.
In the street
Visp itself is not recommended to be explored by car. But the Valais region does. The roads are in good condition. In winter, some roads may require snow chains to be compulsory.

There are many hiking trails of all difficulty levels around Visp. These are located in Visp itself as well as in the surrounding villages. Information on individual hiking trails can be obtained from the Visp tourist office.

The Mühleye swimming pool is about a 15-minute walk from the train station in Visp. Those who prefer to be comfortable can take the local bus. The swimming pool has a 50 m heated swimming pool, 20 m non-swimmer area, paddling pool with slide, 1 and 3 m diving board, 45 m slide and play and sunbathing areas.

Visp is a perfect starting point for bike and bicycle tours in Upper Valais. With "Wallis rolls", the canton of Valais has a bicycle rental service at several locations.
