What see

  • 1 Church of San Matteo, Heroes Square. The medieval building copies the abbey of San Giovanni in Venere in a smaller size. The bell tower was added between the 14th and 15th centuries. In the eighteenth century the truss was replaced by rib vaults in the central nave and barrel vaults. Subsequently, buildings were added close to the façade, including the municipal building, thus constituting an access portico to the church; in the same period additional levels were added to the bell tower. The façade dates back to 1927. The crowning is a broken tympanum. The bell tower has a body detached from the rest of the church. The interior has three naves divided by a pointed arch; a wooden truss roof rests on the central nave.
  • 2 Town Hall. It was built between the end of the 60s and the 70s of the nineteenth century and restored in 1926. The building has a square layout in Lombard neo-medieval style. On the ground floor there is a portico which consists of three round arches. On the first floor three openings with round arches lead to the balcony with perforated balustrade. On the sides there are two identical windows. The central part of the facade is slightly forward compared to the rest of the building. The façade is completely made of square blocks of sandstone. Inside, an imposing staircase leads to the council chamber. Inside, a collection of contemporary art brings together sculptures, paintings and engravings placed on the main staircase and in the council chamber.
  • 3 Murri Casino (in the San Giacomo district). In ancient times it was a farmhouse, which remained in a state of neglect for a long time and not long been recovered by private individuals. It was built between the second half of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century, subsequently the two successive levels were added that have altered its primitive appearance. The internal chapel is a later addition to the original building. The building has a rectangular plan and is distributed over two floors, the private chapel is located on the western side while the two additional floors are located on the northern side. The flight of steps with two flights of stairs leads directly to the first floor. The original building is in brick, left exposed only on the external flights of stairs.
  • 4 Remains of the walls and the Filippini Tower, via abate Oderisio. Ruins of the walls (in stone pebbles of the surrounding area) are still visible in the same area where the Filippini Tower is located. The walls date back to the Normans who built them in 1061. The historic center dates back to the fourteenth century and is in medieval style. Some old photos show that there was still an isolated tower which was destroyed during the bombing of the Second World War. Attached to the historic center there is a pointed portal in sandstone blocks.
