The best seasons for a visit are autumn and spring.
Background
Built in the 6th century AD, in the 12th century it became a municipality.
In 1230 it was the scene of internal city fights and with the neighboring cities: Ascoli, Tolentino, Belforte, Matelica and Fermo.
In 1350 he allied himself with the Visconti. A second circle of walls was built between the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1435 it suffered the siege of Francesco Sforza, but in 1443 it was resumed by Piccinino.

- Medieval walls. Dating back to the fourteenth century, equipped with towers and bulwarks.
- Porta Picena. The main entrance door.
- Pilgrims' hospital. From the end of the 13th century with a portico with low alternately octagonal and round columns supporting lowered arches.
- Collegiate. Of Romanesque foundation, with a late Gothic façade and rich portal. The terracotta decoration is of a Germanic type and was made by Enrico Alemanno in 1421. The bell tower on the right was rebuilt in the upper part in the Baroque period. The interior due to the 2016 earthquake is unusable.

- Historical re-enactment "Return of the exiles". Triennial in June. It tells of the three hundred sanginesini who, between the year 1450 and 1460, exiled on charges of sedition for the restoration of the monarchy, found refuge in Siena.
