The origin of the name" Sarnano "is disputed: some give it dates back to the Etruscan period in which the root -ar was used in reference to places rich in running water, while others maintain that the name is a Roman predial toponym ending in -anum, and that the territory belonged to a veteran of the Augustan era named Sarnus; finally there are those who think that it derives from the name of the god Silvano, protector of the woods present in the territory of Sarnano before the urbanization.
