Geographical notes
Fraction of Cabras from which it is 8 km away, it is located in the peninsula of Sinis.
Background
Village of medieval origin, it owes its name to the church of the same name located in the center of the town, in the basement of which there is an ancient pagan sanctuary of Nuragic origin, centered on the cult of water and rebuilt in the 6th century. In particular, the hypogeum is very interesting as a testimony of various religious superimpositions: nuragic origin, then a temple for the Roman divinities, it has on one wall an inscription in Arabic, an invocation to Allah, probable remnant of some successful assault by part of Islamic raiders in medieval times.
The ceiling of the sacred well lies below sea level and is connected by a luminous crack to the floor of the Christian building, which was rebuilt above it and in smaller dimensions than those of the original nuragic temple.
Numerous graffiti, very rare testimonies of daily life in Roman times: scenes of a hippodrome, drawings of very poor quality animals and others instead of fine workmanship, letters of the Greek alphabet, perhaps evidence of writing exercises.
On the site there are small rural houses (called "cumbessias") built towards the end of the 17th century and used by the owners especially during the novenas. The feast of San Salvatore is celebrated on Saturday and the 1st Sunday of September.
Between the sixties and seventies, with the advent of the Italian western phenomenon, the village, given its characteristics reminiscent of Mexican landscapes, was the location for numerous western films.

1st Sunday of September and previous Saturday. The celebrations for the homonymous patron begin on Saturday morning. The Corsa degli Scalzi consists of a procession run by the faithful, who transport the simulacrum of San Salvatore from Cabras to the hamlet of San Salvatore di Sinis (hence the name corsa degli barezi), for a total distance of about 9 km.
- Once in the village, the statue remains in the church until Sunday evening, when the faithful (sayings curridoris) bring it back, always in a hurry, to the church of Santa Maria a Cabras, where it will be placed in its own chapel.
