Savoie department

Savoie (German Savoy) is a department in the Alps in the south East Of France with the ordinal number 73. It belongs to the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The main Alpine ridge limits the department to the east, behind it closes Italy (Provinces Aosta Valley and Piedmont) at. The département follows in a clockwise direction Hautes-Alpes to the south, to the west Isère and Ain and Haute-Savoie in the North.

Skiing in Les Arcs

Savoy is known as one of the best areas in France for alpine skiing in winter. There are numerous ski areas a short distance from Chambery Airport.

Espace Killy is a ski resort in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoy in the French Alps, named after the skier Jean-Claude Killy. It includes the ski areas of Val d'Isère and Tignes. There are 300 km of slopes: 22 green, 61 blue, 46 red and 25 black slopes, plus 44 km of cross-country trails, 2 terrain parks and 2 glaciers. The STGM company operates 90 ski lifts in the area.

  • Tartiflette is a potato casserole with Reblochon cheese. It is a typical Savoyard dish, but not a traditional one. The recipe was launched around 1980 by the makers of Reblochon cheese.
