Savoie (German Savoy) is a department in the Alps in the south East Of France with the ordinal number 73. It belongs to the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The main Alpine ridge limits the department to the east, behind it closes Italy (Provinces Aosta Valley and Piedmont) at. The département follows in a clockwise direction Hautes-Alpes to the south, to the west Isère and Ain and Haute-Savoie in the North.

Savoy is known as one of the best areas in France for alpine skiing in winter. There are numerous ski areas a short distance from Chambery Airport.

The main wine appellations in this area are Vin de Savoie, Vin de Savoie Mousseux, Crépy Roussette de Savoie and Seyssel. Vin de Savoie, the main appellation in the area, is for dry white, red and rosé wines. The grapes for red wines are Gamay, Mondeuse and Pinot Noir. Many wine lovers prefer the wines Mondeuse-Base. White wines make up 75 percent of production. They are mainly made up Jacquère manufactured, but also Aligoté, Altesse, Chardonnay and Chasselas are used. The Vin de Savoie Mousseux AC is made for sparkling wines Altesse, Molette and Chardonnay used.
