Schönau (Odenwald) is a city on the Steinach im Odenwald.

The city of Schönau goes back to the Schönau monastery founded in 1142. During the Reformation the place became Protestant and the monastery had to be abandoned. In the 16th century Huguenots who had fled Wallonia were settled on the site of the monastery.

By train

Schönau has not had any passenger trains since 1969, the next train station is in today Neckarsteinach to be found (distance 5 km). From Neckarsteinach there is a S-Bahn connection in the directionHeidelberg / Mannheim or.Mosbach.

The disused branch line to Neckarsteinach is now known as Cycle path used.

Schönau is located in a side valley of the Odenwald, easy to reach from the Neckar valley via the B37 and from Neckarsteinach on the country road L535.
