shop

There are quite a few shops in Seiffen that sell gifts and souvenirs, especially “smokers” and similar Christmas decorations. That is the Seiffen tradition. Here wooden souvenirs are handcrafted in factories. Well known are the Christmas pyramids, round wooden frames in which candles force the wings of a rotating mill to move and the angels circle around the mill.

The Christmas bows are adapted to modern times. You put them in the Christmas window. The lights are evenly distributed on the arch. The miniatures are also well-known, small scenes from life the size of a matchbox. Then of course there are also traditional nutcrackers that work and still look like they did in great-grandmother's time. It is better not to use them because they are so beautiful to look at that you do not want to harm them. The already mentioned smokers are also important. As a rule, male figures are reproduced with a whistle, whereby the whistle also works. In addition, various aromas for the pipe can be acquired. You can buy these kinds of handmade wooden toys in many stores. Here you can also get a bargain or two.

At least if you like something like that, it's worth taking a look around. If you don't want to buy anything, you should still walk around town and look at the shops. It's something special.

kitchen

Here they cook according to the Ore Mountains custom. As a starter there is a solyanka, as a main course you have to listen to the host. The homemade dishes are always recommended. If you have homemade aspic with horseradish and fried potatoes, always hit it. Game is very popular and nicely prepared. There is also cabbage and potatoes. The roast can also be recommended. Then there are dumplings and cabbage. There aren't that many restaurants in Seiffen, but they all have regional cuisine and most of them in such a way that you get what the market has to offer. So there is Erzgebirge cuisine.
