The town Marienberg lies on the northern slope of the Ore Mountains and is a large district town in the Ore Mountains. Marienberg was founded in 1521 by Duke Heinrich the Pious because of mining. The historic city center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019.

The closest airports with scheduled flights are Dresden (DRS; 90 km away) and Prague (PRG; 115 km).

By train

Rail traffic to Marienberg was discontinued in 2013. The next train stops are now Warm bath (9 km away) on the Zwönitztalbahn (Chemnitz – Annaberg-Buchholz – Cranzahl) and Pockau-Lengefeld (11 km away) on the Chemnitz – Olbernhau line. It is faster, however, to change to buses at Chemnitz main station (every hour on weekdays, every two hours on weekends), which take a little more than an hour to get to Marienberger Markt. Combined by bus and train, it takes 2:15 hours from Dresden and 2:15 to 2:45 hours from Leipzig, depending on the connection.

By bus

Bus route 207 des Regional transport Ore Mountains (RVE) runs every hour on weekdays (every two hours on weekends) from Chemnitz (bus station or main train station; travel time around an hour) via Zschopau (25 minutes) in one direction and from Olbernhau in the other direction to Marienberg. Bus line 492 runs eight times a day on weekdays from Pockau-Lengefeld to Marienberg (journey time approx. 25 minutes), twice a day also from Freiberg (1:20 hours). Line 216 runs four times on weekdays from Zschopau (approx. 50 minutes) via Selva to Marienberg.

In the street

Of Chemnitz from you use the B174 above Zschopau (generous bypass). Of Freiberg the B101 above Brand-Erbisdorf and Lengefeld used. The B101 is also part of the main route of the "Saxon Silver Road". The southern route of this oldest and longest tourist route in Saxony, on the other hand, does not lead over Lengefeld, but over Sayda, Olbernhau and Pobershau to Marienberg.

From Dresden as from Leipzig it takes between 1:15 and 1½ hours by car with favorable traffic conditions, from Erfurt just under two hours, from Nuremberg just under three, from Berlin over three hours.
