Sorrento (Sorrento) is a city at Naples and a popular starting point for trips to Capri, Pompeii, Naples or to Amalfi Coast. It owns squares connected to pedestrian streets full of restaurants, souvenir shops and tourists.

By plane

Closest airport is Naples Capodichino (IATA code: NAP, ICAO code: LIRN). From there there is a bus connection to Sorrento.

By train

You can get to Sorrento cheaply with the Circumvesuviana regional train, which departs from the basement of Naples Central Station. The journey from Naples to Sorrento (terminus) takes about 1 hour.

By bus

From Naples Airport there is a bus service to Sorrento several times a day.

In the street

From the Autostrada 3 Naples-Reggio di Calabria, take the Castellamare di Stabia exit onto the state road 145, the Vico Equense goes around in a long tunnel, and then reaches Sorrento. Of Salerno Sorrento becomes from the winding state road 163 along the Amalfi Coast reached.

By boat

You can also take a ferry or a hydrofoil from the port of Naples to Sorrento.

From Sorrento you can make many interesting excursions in the area. You can quickly get to the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum or to Vesuvius. From 8:30 a.m., buses leave the train station every 30 minutes for the beautiful places on the Amalfi Coast (e.g. Amalfi, Positano). Ticket sales at a small stand on the station forecourt. High demand can be expected in the main season, arriving early ensures a better place in the queue.

From the port in Sorrento, speedboats go to capri (approx. 20 departures daily), to Naples (approx. 15 runs), to Positano (approx. 6), to Amalfi (approx. 4) and to Ischia (one run). Note that the ships depart from Marina Piccola, which, contrary to the actual meaning of the word, is larger and more important than Marina Grande. From the train station you can walk to Marina Piccola via Piazza Tasso and the stairs in about 20 minutes; you can also use the local bus on line B.

  • Museo Correale di Terranova, just outside the old town in the east at the end of Via Correale, with antiques, paintings and a ceramic and porcelain collection. A lookout point is reached through the garden.

The main street of the city, Corso Italia, is a pedestrian zone. Otherwise, the narrow old town is difficult for car traffic. Parking (for a fee) in Via Correale, among others.
