background

St. Georgen is located on the European watershed between the Rhine (Kinzig - Schiltach) and the Danube (Brigach) and thus at the apex of the Black Forest Railway (Offenburg-Konstanz). The districts of Brigach, Langenschiltach, Oberkirnach, Peterzell and Stockburg as well as a number of hamlets and farms belong to St. Georgen. One of the two source rivers of the Danube rises in the Brigach district ("Brigach and Breg bring the Danube to the river.") The core city is characterized by industry (Black Forest watchmaking industry and successor industries of precision mechanics) and services ("TZ" - technology center, location for IT companies , School location, leisure time, museums, tourism), the German Phono Museum and the Grässlin Collection (private collection of modern art) should be emphasized. The sub-locations have a rural character and represent the green Black Forest with forests and meadows, which is popular with guests.

Due to its altitude near the Black Forest ridge line, the area has sufficient rainfall (around 1200mm) as well as a large number of hours of sunshine (over 1800 h / a), especially in inversion weather conditions. Winter sports are possible in the winter months (4 lifts, ice rink, cross-country trails), supplemented by the offerings of the surrounding communities in the holiday region "The holiday country". In the summer months, the" Klosterweiher "natural swimming pool in particular is a national attraction, supplemented by the indoor swimming pool, which was modernized in 2016 (at the sports center on the Roßberg).

Notable festivities in February are the Alemannic Fasnet (Fasnacht), the city festival (1st weekend in July) with a mountain city run, the mountain city summer at the end of August (concert week), the traditional Christmas market (Saturday before 2nd Advent) with private handicrafts offers throughout, as well as above in addition to a larger number of music offers, museum offers etc. (Calendar of events).
