Strehla is a medieval town. It consists of the districts of Forberge, Görzig / Trebnitz, Großrügeln, Lößnig, Paußnitz, Oppitzsch and Unterreußen. The place was first mentioned in 1002. The river crossing was secured early on by a castle that was only an arrow shot away from the ford. The inhabitants of the place lived mainly from agriculture, fishing and the salt trade, because the salt road ran through the place. In the 1960s, a youth hostel, a zoo, an outdoor swimming pool and many sports facilities were built in the village. Due to its location on the banks of the Elbe, it became a local recreation area. Most of the medieval houses in the city center have been preserved and the GDR government placed the ensemble under monument protection in 1978.

trips
Contrary to the depiction staged one day later, towards the end of the Second World War, on April 25, 1945, the American and Soviet troops did not meet in Torgau, but in Kreinitz near Strehla. Kreinitz, where there is a memorial stone, is on the east bank of the Elbe, so you have to take the ferry across Riesaer Straße. Other destinations in the area are:
- Riesa (9 km southeast, B 182) - the next larger city; Steel and sports city.
- Oschatz (12 km southwest) - like Riesa on the main line Leipzig – Dresden; Weighing Museum, St. Aegidien Church, nearby Osterland Castle.
- Grossenhain (27 km southeast, B 182 to Riesa, then B 169 / B 98) - the center of the Grossenhainer care was the venue of the State Horticultural Show 2002.
- Torgau (32 km northwest, B 182) - Hartenfels Castle, once the seat of the Ernestine Wettins.
