Sundsvall is a Swedish City in the historical province Medelpad. It is located on the Gulf of Bothnia. In front of the city is the island Alnöncoming from the mainland through the Alnösund is separated.
background
Sundsvall received town charter in 1621. Numerous sawmills made the place prosperous. Large fires occurred repeatedly in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the last major fire, around 80% of the population became homeless. As a result, only stone houses that were well preserved were allowed to be built in the inner city area Stenstaden around the market square 1 Stora Torget is now one of the town's greatest attractions.

- 3 Norra Berget open-air museum (Norra retrieves). The Norra Berget is a 105 m high hill that offers a good view of the city. Here is a museum with around 40 buildings. A special feature in this museum is the only stuffed one Skvader.
- 1 Södra Berget open air center (Stadsberget)
- 4 Högom burial ground. The burial ground dates from 400 to 550 AD, it includes 11 graves and a rune stone.

Practical advice
trips
- To Timrå to the Merlo Castle. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. The building was built between 1883 and 1885 as the summer residence of the wood manufacturer Fredrik Bünsow.
- To Tyndero, about 40 km, for the production of Surstromming(Sour herring). There are other production facilities. Anyone who is not a Swede should be warned about the smell.
