Szczawno-Zdrój(German: Bad Salzbrunn before Upper Salzbrunn) is a mountain and health resort in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in the Waldenburger Bergland, a part of the Medium brews. The city is the starting point for hikes in the surrounding mountains.
background
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1221. In the age of Polish particularism, the place came to various changing duchies, most recently to the duchy of Schweidnitz-Jauer, which came to Bohemia in 1368 as a fiefdom. The place was affected in the Hussite Wars and the Thirty Years War. The healing springs were already known in the 16th century. In 1742/1763 the place came to Prussia. The sanatorium developed from 1815. In the 19th century, Prussian kings and Russian tsars were here for cures. In 1853 the place was connected to the rail network. In 1945 the city came to Poland.

All major roads lead over Wałbrzych or Jelenia Góra.
