South A2 motorway

The A2 south motorway is the longest Austrian motorway running from Vienna (Inzersdorf node) over Wiener Neustadt, Graz, Klagenfurt and Villach to the Austrian- [Italy | Italian]] border Thörl-Maglern leads and then to the Italian Autostrada A23 transforms. In the European context, it forms sections of the European route 59, the European route 66 and the European route 55.

The length of the motorway, including feeder roads, is 377.3 km.

background

The motorway construction took place after initial preparatory work during the Second World War from 1958, the commissioning gradually from 1961 and completion in 1999.

Regions

particularities

Like (almost) all Austrian motorways, the "Süd Autobahn" is also vignette required! The mileage count (and the counting of the connection points at the same time) begins in Vienna-Inzersdorf and increases to the Italian border.

traffic

To the south of Vienna, the motorway is partially expanded to eight lanes. The winding route over the change is prone to accidents. This also applies to the section over the Packalpe.
