Chelyabinsk was a trading center for caravans for a long time, which is why a trample still adorns the city's coat of arms today. The upswing began with the construction of the Uralbbahn. Around 1900 70,000 people lived here.
Chelyabinsk's expansion into a heavy industry location began with the Tractor factory planned in the first five-year plan. Due to the circumstances of the time, tanks were built ten years later. There has also been a pipe mill since 1942. After the war, zinc began to be processed. Chelyabinsk was soullessly developed as an industrial location in the post-war years. There are no sights but extreme air pollution to this day. The east of the city is also called Tractor stroy, the northern half Metallurgic rajon. Their residential areas consist of endless Khrushchevka- Panel constructions.
The Miass (Миа́сс) flowing through the city is dammed in the 39 km² Scherschni reservoir in the west of the city.
