background

The Villnößer Tal is an eastern side valley of the Eisack Valley. The mouth of the valley is north of Klausen at an altitude of approx. 950 m, the valley leads over approx. 24 km of valley length through a landscape more like a low mountain range with alpine meadows and mountain forests to the east and ends at approx. 1400 m at the foot of the characteristic Dolomite peaks of the Geisler group in the Puez Geisler nature park. The Geisler Group is also the valley's landmark.

The description Villnöß is attributed to "Neusiedlung".

The Villnößer Bach drains the valley into the Eisack.

The best-known personality of the valley is the extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner, who spent his youth here.

Villnöß is a founding member of Alpine pearls: The tourist cooperation currently (2016) comprises 25 locations from the Alpine countries in Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland according to a comprehensive catalog of criteria for high quality standards.
