Weinsberger valley - Weinsberger Tal

View from Löwenstein to the Breitenauer See

The Weinsberger valley is lying in Heilbronner Land.

Regions

The Weinsberger valley is traversed by the Sulm, a small tributary of the Neckar. It rises in the Löwenstein mountains. After a few kilometers, the Sulm is dammed in Breitenauer See. This was due to frequent flooding of the industrial plants in Neckarsulm, e.g. of companies Audi and Kolbenschmidtcreated for flood regulation. By damming the Sulm, a lake was created between Löwenstein and Obersulm with an area of 40 ha. It is the largest swimming lake in northern Württemberg. The Sulm flows from Neckarsulm in a canal largely underground and joins Bad friedrichshall in the Neckar.
