Opolskie Voivodeship - the voivodeship is located in the south-western region Polish, bordered by Czechs and four voivodships: Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, Łódź Province and Silesian.
Characteristic
The area of the voivodship is 9,412 km² (3% of the country's area), and the number of inhabitants - 1,038,000 (2.8% of the population of Poland). It is divided into 11 poviats, 1 city with poviat rights and 71 communes.
Geography
The voivodeship is located in south-western Poland, near the border with the Czech Republic. In addition, the region borders on four voivodeships: Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, Łódź Province and Silesian. The Opolskie Voivodeship is historically located in the western part Upper Silesiaoften called Opole Silesia.

Climate
The climate of the Opolskie Voivodeship is typical of Silesiawhich does not differ much from its neighbors. There is little rainfall and the seasons are typical for the whole country (cold winter and hot summer). Winds shape, among others near the mountains, as well as the American winds from above Atlantic.
History
The first Opolskie Voivodeship was established in 1950, and in 1975 it was separated from it Racibórz poviat and Oleśki poviat; the latter, enlarged territorially, returned to the voivodeship as a result of the administrative reform in 1999.
Economy
In 2012, the gross domestic product of the voivodeship Opolskie Voivodeship amounted to PLN 34.3 billion, which constituted 2.1% of Poland's GDP. Gross domestic product per capita amounted to 33.9 thousand. PLN (80.8% of the national average), which placed Opolskie in 11th place in relation to other voivodships.
The region's economy is driven mainly by companies such as: Grupa Azoty ZAK w Kędzierzyn-Koźle, ArcelorMittal Poland Branch in Zdzieszowice (the largest coke producer in Poland), Huta Małapanew w Ozimek (the oldest steel plant operating in Poland), Kler w Goodness, Przedsiębiorstwo Wyrobów Cukierniczych "Odra" in Shore (one of the largest Polish confectionery companies), Itaka travel agency in Opole, Cooperative "Pionier" in Prudnik and Opole Power Plant.

Transport
Railway transport
There are 798 km of railway lines in operation in the Opolskie Voivodeship (14th place in the country), of which 362 km are single-track lines, and 436 km - double or more tracks. 440 km of railway lines are electrified (as of December 31, 2013). In 2017, a statistical resident of the Opolskie Voivodeship traveled 5.3 times by train.
There are 30 active railway stations in the voivodeship, 3 of them are entered in the register of monuments (as of October 31, 2014).
The Opolskie Voivodeship owns 20 rail vehicles: 10 diesel and 10 electric.
