Wolfenbüttel is a county seat in Lower Saxony. It has almost 54,000 inhabitants and is located on the Oker.

Wolfenbüttel is a typical residential town with well-preserved half-timbered houses and secular buildings in the Renaissance style. The city was hardly destroyed in the war. The renovation of the old town was largely carried out in compliance with the preservation of historical monuments.

The city lies on the Braunschweig-Bad Harzburg railway line. Trains run approximately every 30 minutes during rush hour. The 1 Wolfenbüttel station is on the outskirts of the city center, which can be quickly reached on foot from there.

By bus

The 2 Long-distance bus stop Wolfenbüttel is located at Halchtersche Strasse 33, a little out of town from the train station.

In the street

From the north, east and west you drive over the A2 (Hanover-Berlin) to the Braunschweig-Nord junction. Continue on the A391, A39 and A395 direction Bad Harzburg to the exit Wolfenbüttel-Nord.

You leave it from the south A7 at Dreieck Salzgitter and drives on the A39 Direction Braunschweig to the exit Salzgitter-Watenstedt. Then continue in the direction of Wolfenbüttel.

There is a parking guidance system in the city. This means you can also find free parking spaces on the edge of the old town, e.g. B. "Bahnhof 2" and "Alte Spinnerei".

In the museum rooms you can admire bibliophile treasures, e.g. the Gospel Book of Henry the Lion, which was auctioned for 32.5 million DM. However, this is only fetched from the safe every two years, in the intervening period the audience has to be content with a facsimile. Admission adults 3 EUR (also valid for Lessing House and Armory).
  • 2 Lessing House, Lessingplatz 1, Tel. 808214, Tuesday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Study of the great German writer Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, who worked here as a librarian. Among other things, he wrote the play "Nathan the Wise". Adults EUR 3 (also valid for the library and armory).
  • 3 Musical instruments museum, Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Straße 1, Tel. 802504, Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The collection includes approx. 3000 exhibits from almost all cultures in the world from more than 1000 years. Free entry.
  • 4 MarienkircheMain church of Beatae Mariae Virginis, Kornmarkt, Tel. 855043, Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., SUN (after the service) until 4 p.m. The construction, which was started in 1608, combines stylistic elements of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to a magnificent unit (Mannerism). Entry 1 EUR (donation).
  • 5 St. Trinity, Holzmarkt Tel. 75230, TUE 11 a.m.-1 p.m., WED 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4 p.m., THU 3 p.m.-5 p.m., SAT 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The church was built from 1716 to 1720 while retaining the older parts of the facade of the previous building and the remains of the former imperial gate.   • 7 Little Venice, Schiffwall / Stobenstrasse. Remainder of the 16th century canal system.
