background

Wolfratshausen is first mentioned in a document in 1003 as "Wolueradeshusun" and has market rights for at least 1280.

Raft town

Wolfratshausen is located immediately south of the confluence of the Loisach with the Isar, the junction between two important traffic arteries Mittenwald and Garmisch. Until the construction of the railway line from Munich to Mittenwald around 1889, rafting was the most important transport route for trade from the south / Italy and thus the most important source of income in the town for centuries.
