The Zeeland is a province in the south of Netherlands. It is made up of islands and peninsulas linked together by dams and Delta Plan bridges. Translate in French, Zeeland literally means "Land of the sea". Its capital, which is also its most important locality, is Middelburg. The area is very flat, which makes it an ideal terrain for cycling.
Understand
Zealand is the province which after Flevoland has regained the most ground on the sea. Originally Zeeland consists mainly of 10 islands which have gradually been linked by Polders. Zealand also contains the Zeeland Flanders which is neither an island nor an ancient island. In 1953, after a major flood that affected the entire province, the government launched the Delta Plan. This consists of the construction of dikes so that such a disaster does not happen again.
The New Zealand, which was discovered by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1642, is named after Zeeland.
