Zwettl is a city in Lower Austria, in the center of the Waldviertel and has about 11,500 inhabitants. Due to its location in the valley, Zwettl usually has lower temperatures in winter than the rest of Austria. Zwettl is the third largest municipality in Austria in terms of area and consists of 55 localities. A total of 26 independent volunteer fire brigades are active in Zwettl.

By plane

The geographically closest international airport is that of the city Linz (Linz-Hörsching), due to the poor road connection and the low number of flights, the Airport Wien-Schwechat preferred.

By train

From Vienna Franz Josef Bahnhof you can take regional express trains Schwarzenau. The connecting line to Zwettl has not had any passenger traffic for several years 1 railway station Zwettl has no function for travelers. From Schwarzenau or Krems, Zwettl is better reached by bus.

By bus

VOR regional buses drive to Zwettl from all major cities in the area (including Krems, Horn, Gmünd, Schwarzenau, Waidhofen). A Wieselbus line connects Zwettl with the state capital St. Pölten. A central bus station is located on Hammerweg, west of the historic center on the other side of the Zwettl River, accessible via a footbridge from the Hofbauerturm.

In the street

  • From Vienna (west) and Salzburg via the A1 to the node Sankt Pölten, continue via the S33 bis Krems at the Donau, then via the B37 and B38 to Zwettl.
  • From Vienna (south / east) and Graz Via the A21 and A1 to the Sankt Pölten junction, then via the S33 to Krems an der Donau, then via the B37 and B38 to Zwettl.
  • From Vienna (north / east) via the A22 to the Stockerau junction, then via the S5 to Krems an der Donau, then via the B37 and B38 to Zwettl.

The usual travel time from Vienna to Zwettl (city) is around 90 to 120 minutes with smooth traffic by car for all three variants.
