To know
Geographical notes
Post on Sabatini reliefs, extends over a promontory on the south-eastern bank of the Bracciano Lake, the third by extension among i lakes of central Italy, after Trasimeno lake and the Lake of Bolsena; this makes it an important tourist and seaside center. The banks of the Martignano lake, shared with the municipalities of Rome is Campagnano of Rome.
When to go
Due to the proximity of the town to Lake Sabatino, the climate is mild with frequent rains in winter and hot and sultry summers.
Given its proximity to Rome, every period of the year is good, but the best periods are certainly spring and autumn, given the mild climate (unless you want to take a bath in the lake, in which case the best time is between May and the first half of October).
Background
As for the foundation, historians agree on the Republican period of ancient Rome, first or second century BC: a wealthy Roman patrician, Rutilia Polla, owned a villa on the banks just below the Collegiate Church and raised lake fish to supply the market of Rome. The corner-shaped villa was called "Angularia" and hence the name Anguillara.
The suffix Sabazia, deriving from the name of the area, serves to distinguish it from a center of the same name in the Padua area, Anguillara Veneta.
