Asperg is a city in Strohgäu. It is dominated by the Hohenasperg, which can be seen from afar.

In the densely populated region of the Middle Neckar is the Hohenasperg with its 356 m height a landmark that can be seen from afar. Already in pre-Christian times the mountain served as a prince's seat and as a refuge, smaller elevations like the one south of the city Small asparagus were barrows. The Hohenasperg was expanded into a fortress in the Middle Ages, and at the end of the 17th century it became a state prison, where not only criminals but also political prisoners were housed. The building complex has served as a correctional hospital since 1968.
