Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach is lying in Northern Black Forest in the upper Wolftal on the southern slope of the Kniebis at an altitude between 350 and 900 m, the place is the highest mineral and mud bath in the Black Forest.

The municipality of Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach was created in 1974 through the merger of the formerly independent villages Bad Rippoldsau and Schapbach. The two parts of the community are about 7 km apart in the upper Wolftal. Bad Rippoldsau is about 550 m above sea level, it is the smaller suburb. Here you will find the Kurpark, Kurhaus and Tourist Information. The larger district of Schapbach is about 400 m above sea level and has a more rural structure.

Neighboring municipalities are Baiersbronn, Freudenstadt, Alpirsbach, Thigh cell, Oberwolfach, Wolfach and Bad Peterstal-Griesbach.
