Freudenstadt - Freudenstadt

Freudenstadt

Freudenstadt is a climatic health resort and Kneipp health resort and is located in the center of the Northern Black Forest.

background

Freudenstadt is a planned Baroque town that Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg had built in the early 17th century. The reasons for this were ore finds in the region and the close border with the ore monastery of Strasbourg am Kniebis. The old town is laid out around an almost square market square with a right-angled floor plan, on the schedule of the Mill game ajar. Outbreaks of the plague, the Thirty Years' War with destruction and the lack of large ore discoveries, however, hampered the subsequent development, in which only the railroad from the second half of the 19th century and the onset of tourism were to change something.

Three weeks before the German surrender in World War II, Freudenstadt was largely destroyed on April 16, 1945 by artillery fire and massive bombing. Today's cityscape is the result of the reconstruction of the 1950s, which was largely based on the historical model.

In addition to the core city, Freudenstadt consists of the districts Dietersweiler, Grüntal-Frutenhof, Igelsberg, Kniebis, Musbach, Wittlensweiler and Zwieselberg, including several hamlets and farms.

Neighboring communities are Baiersbronn, Seewald, Pfalzgrafenweiler, Dornstetten, Smooth, Lossburg, Alpirsbach and Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach.
