Regions

The Murgtal in the northern Black Forest lies between the Alb valley in the northeast and the valleys of the Enz and Nagold in the southeast. In the south it is almost enough Freudenstadt. To the west it is bordered by the knee and the knee B500, the Black Forest High Road, this goes north over the Bühlerhöhe and after Baden-Baden in the Baden Rhine Plain.

The Murg rises with the two source rivers Rotmurg and Rechtmurg below the 2 Grinding headSchliffkopf in the Wikipedia encyclopediaSchliffkopf in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsSchliffkopf (Q881889) in the Wikidata database, the second highest peak in the northern Black Forest at 1055 m. They unite in the Baiersbronn district 8 Obertal in a wide valley at an altitude of 600 m. It flows on through Baiersbronn, from here to the north through a narrow and sparsely populated valley. Shortly before Forbach, the Murg is at 9 Cherry tree washes closed, a little further north the Raumünzach flows into the Murg. The Murg Valley has an extensive network of hiking trails. The Gernsbacher tour around the rafting town and the Landslide from Gaggenau to Schliffkopf are certified as premium hiking trails.

To go biking

The Tour de Murg is a popular route for bike trips, especially in connection with the light rail system. Starting in Freudenstadt or Baiersbronn, it follows the course of the river with a slight gradient. A popular training route for racing cyclists is the eleven-kilometer ascent from the Murg Valley with a 750 m difference in altitude and a middle section of up to 12% from Gernsbach-Hilpertsau via Reichental to the top of the pass Black miss at the Hohloh.

Kayaking

When the water level is high, some sections of the river in the middle Murg Valley are suitable as whitewater stretches for kayakers.
