Herrenberg belongs to the greater Stuttgart area and is located in Korngäu in the district Boeblingen. The 522 m high Schlossberg in the east of the city is already an offshoot of the Schönbuchs. The city was founded in the 13th century. It has belonged to Württemberg since 1382. During the Thirty Years' War, Herrenberg was almost completely destroyed by a major fire. In the course of the reconstruction, the old town got the basic shape that is still valid today, in the following generations numerous half-timbered buildings that are still worth seeing were added. Herrenberg has been a major district town since the municipal reform in 1975 and has a total of 8 districts.

  • CityTicket 2017: Herrenberg is with Marbach am Neckar Participant in the pilot project "StadtTicket 2017". Tickets in the urban area are subsidized and sold at a reduced price by the city. This ticket entitles you to travel in the Herrenberg urban area (including sub-locations), changes and breaks are also permitted here. After validation, the StadtTicket is valid for two hours.   • Schönbuch Nature Park: Herrenberg is a good starting point for hikes and other activities in the Schönbuch Nature Park, which can be reached from Herrenberg train station by bus (Waldfriedhof stop) or on foot (towards Schlossberg / Alter Rain, approx. 1 hour's walk). The Schönbuch is a diverse mixed forest that invites you to go hiking, cycling and barbecuing. The parking lot at the Waldfriedhof Herrenberg is a good starting point for activities in Schönbuch.
