Map of Murgleiter

The Landslide is a long-distance hiking trail divided into several stages along the Murgtals in the Northern Black Forest. The 5 stages lead to 110 km of Gaggenau past Gernsbach, Forbach and Baiersbronn until the Grinding head.

background

The hiking sign of the Murgleiter is a green “m” that is underlined in blue and is located in a blue-framed diamond on a gray background (see picture). The path was named by the German Hiking Institute "Premium way" excellent, which ensures that it is continuously marked and has a particularly high experience value.

The Murgleiter can be hiked in both directions, but the descent towards Gaggenau also includes several intermediate climbs. Most hikers, however, approach the path from below, i.e. from Gaggenau.

preparation

getting there

With the exception of the upper part behind Baiersbronn, the entire Murgtal is crossed by the Murgtalbahn, on the trams of Karlsruhe Transport Association circulate. The lines S81 runs from Forbach to Rastatt on the lower reaches of the Murg and the S8 runs from Freudenstadt above the Murg valley to downtown Karlsruhe, also past the main train station, where various regional, IC and ICE connections stop. Both lines serve most of the larger and smaller towns along the Murg.

The entrance to the first stage is on Unimog Museum in Gaggenau-Bad Rotenfels. There you can park your car directly on site or, if you arrive by train, at the bus stop 1 Bad Rotenfels Castle get out. From there it is only a few hundred meters on foot to the entrance.

If you want to walk the Murgleiter in the opposite direction, you can start at the Schliffkopf on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße (B500). This can only be reached by public transport via bus lines 12 and 21 between Freudenstadt and the Mummelsee or Buhlbach. Compared to the Murgtalbahn, these are much less frequented. There is also a fairly large parking lot for hikers on site for cars.
