Balingen is the district town of the Zollernalbkreis and is located on the eastern edge of the Kleiner Heuberg at the foot of the Swabian Alb. Another 12 districts belong to Balingen, most of which were incorporated into the municipality during the municipal reform between 1971 and 1975. They rise south of the city Balingen Mountains. The Plettenberg (1.002 m), the Schafberg (1,000 m), the Perforated stone (963 m) and that Punch horn (956 m) are among the highest elevations in the Zollernalb.
