background

Hohenzollern Castle near Hechingen is a symbol of this tourist region and its name. It was the ancestral seat of the princely family of Hohenzollern, from which numerous Prussian kings and the last German emperors descended. The Hohenzollern Lands officially belonged to the State of Prussia until 1947, then to Württemberg-Hohenzollern and from 1952 to Baden-Württemberg.

getting there

By plane: The next major airport is in Stuttgart and approx. 60 km away.

By train: The closest ICE train stations are Stuttgart and Ulm. An Interregio-Express (IRE) runs every two hours from Stuttgart directly to Hechingen (1 hour), Balingen and Albstadt-Ebingen (1½ hours). Otherwise you have to change again in Tübingen, from where the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn (HZL) departs every hour with numerous stops on the way to Albstadt-Ebingen. In Hechingen there is also an hourly connection to Burladingen (a total of at least 2 hours from Stuttgart) with coordinated departure times. Coming from Ulm, you have to change trains in Sigmaringen, from where either the IRE or the HZL alternates hourly to Albstadt (a total of just under 2 hours from Ulm), Balingen and Hechingen and the HZL to Burladingen every two hours.

By car: The A 81 motorway (Stuttgart – Singen) leads west past the Zollernalb, the largely motorway-like B 27 (Stuttgart – Tübingen – Rottweil – Villingen-Schwenningen) passes the Zollernalb in Hechingen and Balingen.

mobility

The region's buses and local trains are part of the Transport association Neckar-Alb-Danube, or NALDO for short.
