Borgorose is a city of Cicolano, subregion of Lazio.
To know
The town is located in the protected territory of Mountains of the Duchess regional reserve, on the border of Lazio With the'Abruzzo in the Salto valley. The municipal territory is crossed by the directional junction of the A24 and A25 motorways located in Torano.
Geographical notes
The city rises at an altitude of 732 m a.s.l. in a portion of the Apennine hinterland surrounded to the west by the prodromes of the Carseolani mountains, to the south by the Marsica and to the north from the Monti del Cicolano and the mountain group of Monte Nuria (1,888 m. s.l.m.).
The plain called Borgorose-Corvaro is squeezed between the mountainous reliefs and is characterized by some narrow valleys adjacent to the course of the Salto river. On the overhanging mountains of the Duchess is the Lake of the Duchess which is an Apennine watershed that divides its territory from that of Abruzzo Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park and the province ofthe Eagle.
The hamlets of Cartore, Castelmenardo, Collefegato, Collemaggiore, Colleviati, Collorso, Corvaro, Grotti, Pagliara del Salto, Poggiovalle, Ponte Civitella, Santa Anatolia, Santo Stefano, Spedino, Torano, Villerose and Villette are part of the vast municipal territory. municipality of Pescorocchiano there are the caves of Val de 'Varri.

Background
The city was included until 1927, the year of the establishment of the province of Rieti, in the administration of the Giustizierato d'Abruzzo and the Abruzzo Ulterior II, finally it was part of the province ofthe Eagle. Originally called Borgocollefegato the town in 1960 changed its name to Borgorose.

The state road 578 Salto Cicolana connects Borgorose to Rieti and ad Avezzano. In the territory of the hamlet of Torano there is the directional junction of the A24 motorways Rome-L'Aquila-Teramo and A25 Rome-Pescara, from which the "Valle del Salto" motorway exit is a few hundred meters away.
On the train
The railway Terni-Sulmona serves the stations of the neighboring municipalities of Cittaducale ed Antrodoco connecting theUmbria and the Lazio toAbruzzo.

- Lake of the Duchess. Mountain lake located at high altitude within the Duchess Mountains regional reserve.
- Duchess Mountains Regional Reserve. Established in 1990, it extends entirely within the municipal area of Borgorose for about 3500 hectares.
- Village of Cartore. Abandoned village located in the mountain area of the nature reserve. The farmhouses and the old houses of the village have been restored to serve as a widespread hotel.

- Rieti - Considered by the authors of the classical age the geographical center of Italy (Umbilicus Italiae) was founded at the beginning of the Iron Age and became an important city of the Sabines; still today its territory is identified as "Sabina".
- L'Aquila - It is slowly but tenaciously reborn after the earthquake of 2009. Santa Maria di Collemaggio, San Bernardino, the Spanish Fort, the Fountain of the 99 spouts are its major monuments.
