Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park is located in the province ofthe Eagle, in Abruzzo.

To know

It was inaugurated in 1989. A Rocca di Mezzo the management and administrative office of the managing body of the nature reserve is located. The visitor centers are located in Aielli, Fontecchio, Oak and a Magliano de 'Marsi, while the information offices are located in Alba Fucens, Castelvecchio Subequo, Celano, Rocca di Cambio, Rocca di Mezzo e Tione degli Abruzzi. The Park Authority's Environmental Education Center is located in Secinaro.

Flora and fauna

Flora

There Flora it includes species never reported before on the Velino massif such as Nigritella rubra widderi, Orchis spitzelii and Peonia officinalis. It should also be remembered the presence of relics of the vegetation of the glacial period such as: the Saxifraga marginata. In the woods, beech and birch trees prevail.

Fauna

Between the fauna there are 216 species of vertebrates, 149 birds, 43 mammals, 13 reptiles and 11 amphibians, as per the official website of the park. In the woods, the most interesting mammal present is certainly the wild cat.

The constant presence of the Apennine wolf joins that of the fox, hare, stone marten and weasel. Ornithologists can observe several species of birds of prey, the golden eagle, the eagle owl, the sparrow hawk and the buzzard, as well as smaller species. The griffon vulture has also been present for some years in numerous specimens. It is rare to meet Marsican brown bears whose central range is represented by the area of national park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise.

The park was established thanks to the regional law of 13 July 1989, No. 54.

By car

From the A25 highway Rome-Pescara and from the A24 Roma-L'Aquila-Teramo the protected area is easily reachable through several toll booths: Magliano de 'Marsi, Avezzano, Aielli-Celano, L'Aquila.

On the train

The stations of Chapels-Magliano, Avezzano is Celano-Ovindoli, are served by the connections that run along the Rome-Avezzano-Sulmona-Pescara.The national network of Trenitalia manages the Rome-Avezzano-Sulmona-Pescara railway lines. L'Aquila and Molina Aterno, are served by the railway lines Terni-Sulmona.
