Ovindoli is a city of Marsica, subregion ofAbruzzo.

To know

The country is one of the best known winter resorts in central Italy. Located on the slopes of Mount Magnola (2222 meters above sea level), it offers important accommodation facilities and alpine ski slopes, of all levels of difficulty and belonging to the Tre Nevi ski area. Also on the Rocche plateau which connects its territory with Rocca di Mezzo there are cross-country ski trails, among the longest in central-southern Italy. In the Marsican town there are facilities equipped for every other type of sport, in particular horse riding, mountaineering, trekking, paragliding, archery, free climbing. It is part of the club of the Authentic Villages of Italy.

Included in the province ofEagle in Abruzzo the mountain village is included in the area of Sirente-Velino Regional Natural ParkIt is located at about 1400 meters above sea level on the extreme southern part of the Rocche plateau, in the Velino-Sirente chain, about 10 kilometers from Celano and the underlying Fucino plain, with the capital Avezzano. Nearby are the Faito, Magnola, Tino mountains (known as Serra di Celano), Sirente and the Piani di Pezza. Its hamlets, the villages of Santa Jona and San Potito preserve monuments and traces of ancient history such as the medieval tower, the ruins of a castle and the remains of an imperial villa.

Monte Magnola ski resort

Winter sports lovers visit the Ovindoli ski resort inevitably in the middle of winter, when, thanks to the favorable weather, the snow often falls abundantly on the high altitude mountains. However, the country, especially on summer weekends, is filled with vacationers, tourists and lovers of nature and sports that can be practiced in the open air.

Background

Most likely the first inhabited nucleus developed in Roman times around a tower or a "castrum" of the ancient Marsi peoples, built to defend the passage towards the Vestini. Its ancient Marso castle, together with the neighboring one of Rovere (from the Latin Robur), had a guard and defensive function, considering the dominant geographical position.

Ovindoli can be reached from Rome, Pescara is Sulmona through the motorway exits of Aielli-Celano or Avezzano of the A25 motorway Torano-Pescara along the state road 696 del Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park. A secondary road instead comes from the territory of Magliano de 'Marsi, in turn served by the A25 motorway exit, in the direction of Forme di Massa d'Albe. FromEagle instead it can be reached along the S.R. 5 Bis (ex S.S. 5 Bis) and the state road 696 of the Sirente-Velino Regional Park which crosses the Rocche plateau and the territories of Rocca di Cambio, Rocca di Mezzo and oak. Finally, the provincial road n.11 Sirentina connects Ovindoli to the Subequana valley.

On the train

The Celano-Ovindoli railway station located in the municipal area of ​​Celano serves both municipalities and is located along the Rome-Pescara railway line managed by the national network of Trenitalia. It is the only railway station to serve an Abruzzo ski area, that of Ovindoli Monte Magnola. Another nearby station along the same line is that of Avezzano, located about 20 kilometers away from the town and the ski resorts.

Snow-covered Monte Magnola

On the slopes of Monte Magnola (from an altitude of 1,450 to 2,222 meters above sea level) there are slopes for skiing, of all levels of difficulty and belonging to the Tre Nevi ski area. The "Monte Magnola Impianti" station has about 30 km of ski slopes, wide and of varying difficulty for beginners and experts, suitable for the practice of alpine winter sports: skiing, telemarking and snowboarding. Many of the slopes are served by state-of-the-art ski lifts (including cable cars) and advanced technologies for artificial snow. Downstream at 1,500 meters above sea level, there are slopes for beginners equipped with a moving walkway and three-seater chairlift, while the high-altitude lifts (three three-seater chairlifts) can be reached via a modern cableway or eight-seater gondola. The Cross-Country Stadium, on the other hand, is a structure dedicated to the practice of cross-country skiing, while the "AlienPark" snowpark is dedicated to the most elaborate and disparate skiing disciplines. Ski mountaineering can be practiced along the marked trails both on the side of Mount Velino and Mount Sirente.
