What see

  • Castle of Cleto. The origins of the Castello di Cleto can be traced back to the Normans who settled on the slopes of Mount Sant'Angelo, where they built the castle on top of the mountain. The two towers are still visible today and in perfect condition. Inside the castle a large cistern collected rainwater.
  • Church of the Consolation. Erected in 1600 (and restored in the nineteenth century), it has a curved spire bell tower with a polychrome majolica mantle (XVII century) of clear Byzantine style, nineteenth-century frescoes by R. Aloisio da Aiello and an oil painting on canvas, with the Madonna of the Consolation, unfortunately stolen. On the whole floor of the Church the Flower of Life is depicted in mosaics and in different sizes.
  • Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The Mother Church dates back to 1500. It has a 3-nave structure without a transept with a semicircular apse located to the east. Analyzing the structure, it is clearly evident in the part of the south elevation, a buffered stone arch, testimony of an ancient system, perhaps modified or rebuilt due to the various earthquakes that have affected the area in the past. There are two portals: one in the seventeenth-century main facade; the second on the north side, a simple round arch, resting on stone elements. The bell tower has a square shape and rises on three levels marked by molded frames. It has a cone-shaped roof, covered with plaster, on an octagonal drum. The structure is completely built in load bearing masonry with local stone. Several interventions are noted such as the plugging of some original stone windows, the transformation of the existing ones and the use of modern materials. Inside you can admire a series of elaborate stuccos that cover all the naves, made by anonymous master craftsmen, completely white (desired or because of the unfinished work), particular of its kind.
  • Church of the Most Holy Rosary. Also known as the Castellense Church, it is located on top of the historic center at the gates of the castle.
  • Savuto Castle. Located in the nearby hamlet of Savuto, little is known about both the castellani who came to power and the alterations it underwent over the centuries. Today only the ruins of the perimeter walls and the Renaissance portal exist of the castle. On one of these ruins there is an inscription dedicated to Eliodora Sabbasia, wife of the Royal Thesoriere of Calabria Citra, dating back to the sixteenth century. while adjacent to the castle there are the ruins of the medieval oratory.
  • Cece Fountain. The area of Cece, Pantano locality, is of exceptional archaeological importance. In it, recent excavations have brought to light an intact cave tomb dating back to the 14th century BC. whose finds are found at the University of Perugia. Previously (early twentieth century) the archaeologist Paolo Orsi found two copper axes dated to the end of the Eneolithic and other bronze finds now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria.
